Alabama Football: Ryan Grubb's Plan to Improve the Offense in 2026 (2026)

Alabama's Offensive Strategy for 2026: A Focus on the Run Game

Alabama's offensive coordinator, Ryan Grubb, is setting his sights on a more robust running game for the 2026 season. In an interview with WAKA Action 8 News, Grubb emphasized the importance of a physical mindset and execution in the run game, a stark contrast to the team's struggles in the previous year.

The Crimson Tide's 2025 season was a challenge, ranking 125th out of 136 FBS teams in rushing offense with an average of just 104.13 yards per game. The team's struggles were evident in their final three games, where they managed a mere 48 combined rushing yards on 58 attempts, a disappointing 0.83 yards per carry.

One of the key issues was the lack of consistent production from the running backs. Only Jam Miller managed to surpass 300 yards for the season, and no player rushed for more than 100 yards in a single game. With Miller's eligibility expired and four starters from the offensive line needing replacement, the team faces a challenging task.

To address these concerns, Alabama has made strategic moves. Eleven new linemen, including six from the transfer portal, have been added to the roster. The unit will be led by a new position coach, Adrian Klemm, who takes over from Chris Kapilovic. This offseason, improving the run game has been a priority, and head coach Kalen DeBoer shared his insights on the matter.

DeBoer highlighted the importance of execution, emphasizing that it's not just about physicality and toughness but also about everyone being in sync. He explained that it involves the quarterback in pass protection, understanding the positions of the man side, zone side, and unblocked defenders. In the run game, it's about the running back reading the blocks of those in front of them.

According to DeBoer, success in the run game relies on repetition and players being in tune with each other. He stressed that improvement is a collective effort, not solely the responsibility of one position.

As Alabama prepares for the 2026 season, fans are eagerly anticipating a more balanced and successful offense. With the right mindset, execution, and strategic moves, the team aims to showcase a more robust running game, addressing the concerns raised by both fans and the media.
