Noah Clowney's NBA Journey: From Alabama to Brooklyn Nets (2026)

The NBA's Brooklyn Nets are facing a challenging season, with a record of 15-38 so far. However, amidst these team losses, former Alabama forward Noah Clowney is finding his own individual victories.

Clowney, drafted by the Nets in 2023, joined a team that had previously made five consecutive playoff appearances. But the Nets' recent strategy has been to stockpile draft picks and develop young talent, prioritizing salary-cap flexibility over immediate success.

In an interview, Clowney shared his perspective on the team's struggles. He explained how, as a rookie, he spent most of the season playing for the Nets' G League affiliate, the Long Island Nets, where they were winning and performing well. It was in his second year that the reality of the Nets' situation hit home. With key trades and increased playing time, Clowney started to feel the frustration of losing.

"I had to shift my perspective," Clowney said. "I had to separate my individual success from the team's success. I wanted to help us win every game, but I also had to focus on my own development. I asked myself, 'Did I get better in this game? Did I improve my skills?'"

Clowney's approach highlights the unique challenges of playing for a rebuilding team. With five rookies drafted, the Nets knew it would be a tough adjustment.

This season, Clowney has played a career-high 47 games, starting in 41 of them. Despite a back injury that kept him out of six games before the break, he's averaging 13.1 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game. He's also reached new career highs in single-game performances, scoring 31 points, grabbing 11 rebounds, and dishing out six assists.

Clowney attributes the difference between college and the NBA to the increased physicality and skill level. "Everybody's stronger, faster, and better," he said. "Mentally, they know their game inside out. Defense in college is one thing, but in the NBA, you're guarding players who can shoot from anywhere on the court, and they have more space to operate. It's a whole different ball game."

The Nets will face the Cleveland Cavaliers on Thursday night, and Clowney's individual victories will continue to be a bright spot in an otherwise challenging season.
